Winning entries of the Localicious® Art and Video Contest

The Hawaiʻi Agricultural Foundation (HAF) is proud to announce the winners of the 2021-2022 Localicious® Art and Video contest presented by Hawaiʻi Gas. This K-12 Art and Video Contest inspires students to highlight the importance of local farmers, ranchers, and fishermen. Previously known as the Art & Poetry Contest, HAF incorporated a new option for secondary students in grades 6-12 to submit a 30 second Public Service Announcement (PSA) video on HAF’s mission to promote agriculture and farming. The art contest for students in grades K-5 incorporated the theme: Hawai‘i Agriculture: Producing More Than Produce.

“It was exciting to see nearly 180 entries submitted from students in over 50 public, charter, private, and home schools. Hawai‘i Gas is fortunate to support this contest, which inspires students’ creativity in the culinary field” said Alicia Moy, President and CEO. “The Localicious® Art & Video contest gave students an opportunity to learn all facets of Hawai‘i’s agricultural industry, which is so critical for our islands.”

The two 1st Place winners of the 2021 – 2022 Contest were Zachary Sakata, a 5th grader at ‘Iolani School and Cassidy Crowley, a 7th grader at Punahou School. Zachary’s winning entry, titled “Localicious Menu” depicted a vivid portrayal of entrée, greens, and dessert items made with locally-sourced ingredients. In Cassidy’s PSA, “The Journey of Aloha Starts with Local,” she explains the benefits of farming, cooking, and eating local.
