EAT THINK DRINK on July 18
Honolulu, HI – Hawaiʻi Agricultural Foundation (HAF) is set to host its eighth EAT THINK DRINK: Hawaiʻi Regional Cuisine––The Evolution of Agricultural in Hawaiʻi on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at the ʻAlohilani Resort Waikiki Beach. The event will explore how the Hawaiʻi Regional Cuisine movement diversified agriculture in Hawaiʻi and brings together thought-leaders in the agricultural and food industry, sharing their views on how the collaboration between farmers and chefs fuels the fire on what we grow and what we eat.
For the first hour, keynote speaker Samuel Yamashita, Ph.D., will share excerpts from his newly released book, Hawai‘i Regional Cuisine: The Movement That Changed the Way Hawai‘i Eats, offering a bold original analysis of the cuisine and its impact on the islands. After the keynote, panelists from Hawai‘i’s agricultural and food industries will join the conversation to share their thoughts on the Hawaiʻi Regional Cuisine movement and how it continues to impact local agriculture. The panel discussion will be moderated by Dean Okimoto and feature Jehu Fuller of Makaweli Meat Company, Michelle Karr-Ueoka of MW Restaurant, and Shin Ho of Ho Farms, with an opportunity for an audience Q&A.
“I am honored and delighted to be the keynote speaker at EAT THINK DRINK on July 18. It’s fascinating to see how the Hawaiʻi Regional Cuisine movement has dramatically changed the local agricultural and culinary landscape over course of nearly two decades, and continues to influence agriculture, food systems and culinary trends with a new generation of chefs.” says Dr. Yamashita.
From 7-9pm, EAT THINK DRINK will showcase five celebrated local chefs serving up globally-inspired bites made with locally-sourced ingredients. Featured chefs include panelist Michelle Karr-Ueoka; Chris Kajioka of Senia; Andrew Le of The Pig & The Lady; Colin Hazama of The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort; and David Lukela of the ʻAlohilani Resort Waikiki Beach.
Tickets are available in advance for $65 at OnoRevolution.com or $75 at the door and include taxes and ticketing fees.
