Workshops are scheduled regularly with tenants to provide them with the most accurate and up-to-date information on farming practices and requirements in Hawaii. Workshop topics include food safety guidelines, integrated pest management (IPM), safe pesticide use and training on understanding pesticide labels, vegetable varieties, irrigation, marketing and branding.

August 31, 2016 Irrigation Workshop
8 farmers from the HAF Ag Park at Kunia attended an irrigation workshop hosted by Syngenta Hawaii in Kunia. The 4 hour workshop included basics of the hydrologic cycle, conservation measures to save water, best irrrigation practices, and techniques to determine when crops have been provided with adequate water for the crop stage. Participants were able to see and handle samples of soil at various saturation levels, and view different types of irrigation materials. Data collected from 2 farmers' parcels in the park was graphed and reviewed to provide real time accurate guidance on watering practices. Pastries, coffee and a Thai lunch were also provided.

Review of common pollinators on farm and how to attract and protect them. Pollinators can contribute to greater crop yield as insect diversity is also important for integrated pest management.

Pesticides are classified into distinct groups with differing modes of action and are therefore designed to work together to ensure the pest resistance to any one pesticide is reduced.

March 31, 2015 Pesticide Safety and Worker Protection Standards (WPS) Workshop
Discuss requirements for use of pesticides on farm when workers are present, general safety for use of pesticides and fertilizers, personal protective equipment, laws and label requirements.
April - May 2015 Weekly assessments with individual tenants to discuss their pest management practices and offer advice and suggestions. Identify what PPE and storage needs tenants have and what other training topics are desired.

Review irrigation infrastructure on farm, water meter reading timeline, identify irrigation needs in each park.
October 21, 2015 Veggie Variety Workshop
Overview of vegetable varieties and pest management with hands-on experience in the classroom and field, including demo presentations to gain a wider understanding to meet the expectations of their customer base. The opportunity to have face to face time with vegetable, pest and soil specialists taught the farmers their options for optimal growth of other vegetable varieties.
